This task provides students with an opportunity to identify their own values, and to explore the profiles and life experience timelines of famous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander role models. Students will develop vocabulary resources related to these profiles, use the resources to read Japanese texts about these people and analyse how these people match the identified values of international companies such as Honda. Students will then focus on the identified Japanese values of ゆうき、がまん、きょうりょく、and どりょく to create a mixed media presentation endorsing 4 possible candidates. This task focuses on reading, writing and speaking skills and includes formative and summative assessment opportunities throughout.
Task overview
This task requires students to work through several phases.
The first phase is to develop an understanding of what values are and the role of corporate values in business. Students will translate the corporate values of “Yatta!” company and begin brainstorming ideas for people who represent these values.
The second phase requires students to explore the profiles and life timelines of several Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. This phase will help students develop the vocabulary and phrases needed to describe the selected ambassadors in phase 3.
The third phase requires students to write up profiles and timelines of 4 possible candidates including 2 who are Japanese. Students then need to choose 1 of these candidates for as the focus of a final bilingual multimedia presentation.
