The Year 11 Beginners Task A: Japanese Homestay Preparation
This task focuses on listening and writing skills at the beginning of the Year 11 course. Students imagine that they are Alex, a year 11 student about to go to Japan later this year. They receive a video clip from the homestay family they are going to be hosted by. They need to work out the gist of the videoclip and specific information in order to write a letter to the host family in Japanese.
The Year 11 Beginners Task B: Japanese Language Camp
This task focuses on reading and speaking skills. Students imagine they have signed up for a two-day language immersion camp in the school holidays for students studying Japanese. They are attending the orientation day and need to work out the gist and specific information in the orientation package, before being interviewed in Japanese about their selections by the camp support staff.
Year 12 Task 1: School Trip Preparation
This task focuses on listening and writing skills. Students imagine their Japanese class is going to Japan for a two-week language and culture tour. The trip includes two one-day tours of Tokyo. The students have been asked to view advertisements in Japanese about each tour using this information to decide their preferred tour option.
Year 12 Task 2: Well-being Centre
This task focuses on listening, reading and writing skills. Students imagine they have a part-time job at a Healthy lifestyle and well-being centre. They arrive for their shift at the Well-being centre and work through three tasks left for them by the manager.
Year 12 Task 3: House Swap
This task focuses on reading and speaking skills. Students imagine they have finished Year 12 and have decided to spend a Gap year in Japan. Their family has decided to join them for the first 3 months and have signed up with a house swap company. The student is responsible for navigating their family through the application process.
